Recording

We are getting closer and closer to going in to record the real drums for the album. We have been recording to a click religiously and it definitely makes a HUGE difference! The songs are tighter and bigger. Some people will argue that recording to a click will make you lose the feel. That is totally wrong. If you have a good drummer and you have good songs and good musicianship then the feel is not in the click but in your playing.

All the songs are mapped out and 90% of the rhythms are laid down. There are still alot of solos and a few melodies to record and some ear candy but all that will come soon enough. I can't wait!!!

TAPS - Ghosthunters

Some of you already know that I'm (Bill) the EVP Specialist for the tv show Ghosthunters on Sci-Fi channel. For those that don't...I am. In any case the new season starts this wednesday. So be sure to tune in to the Sci-Fi channel and support your local ghosthunters!

More on the "State of Music"

We are truly not alone in our views on the current state of music. Rosanna Arquette did a great documentary which recently aired on Showtime called "All We Are Saying". She interviews many long time artists who share their views on where music is today. For more info on this film visit http://www.allwearesaying.net

Offensive?

If the pic on the left offends you then you are taking life way to seriously. We've all said it and we've all done it (flip the middle finger that is...what the hell were you thinking?). The middle fingers are for anyone that say you shouldn't follow your dreams. They are for the critic that spends his/her time hidden behind a computer because the only thing they know how to do is criticize others. They are for anyone that says "you can't do that". Oh yeah? Watch us!!!!

Recording - Day ??????

So another day was spent in the studio laying down tracks and writing. Zac came over and played us a couple of riffs he had which promptly turned into a brutal yet elegant new LoNero song tentatively titled "F.Y.T.". Writing with Zac is definitely beneficial. He seems to come up with some great and catchy rhythms. Just what we love!
Mike laid down some bass lines for "F.Y.T.". as well and Steve laid down some overdubbed drums for "Whatever" and "F.Y.T.". I laid down the melody and solo for "F.Y.T.". tonight as well as some overdubs for "Milkshake" and "Whatever".

In 99% off the instrumental bands out there one guy (usually the lead guitarist) writes all the songs. Why? Where is it written that no one else in the band can contribute? In LoNero it is all about contribution. I don't care who writes the song. As long as at the end of the day it is a good song and everyone is happy and grooving along to it. It doesn't matter who wrote it. The bottom line is it's all about the music. PERIOD!

To hear "F.Y.T." check out our alternate myspace profile (used only to enable us to upload more songs) at myspace.com/LoNero2 and click FYT. For those that know, you know what that means. If you don't.....just ask.

State of Music

Never in the history of recorded music has there been an era that has so failed to use the power of music to inspire as the era that we are living in now. There are many factors that contribute to this but the most proliferating one would be greed and alot of impatience. Today corporate greed has taken over and the art of creating something that speaks to the soul and moves you has been pushed aside for the sake of money. With the introduction of crap like American Idol the idea of taking some cute little wanna be pop star out to the public and capitalizing and cashing in on their popularity has grown to the point of absolute obsurdity. The real musicians that have something to say from their heart are thrown to the side for the flash in the pan pop star.
It is not only pop music where this has happened though. Formulaic and homogenized crap can be found in almost all genre's of music. For example:
Rock - Fall Out Boy, Avenge SevenFold, Yellow Card, My Chemical Romance, The All American Rejects, Death Cab for Cutie, Gorillaz, Avril Lavigne, etc.
Rap - Just about any artists out there now no matter how gangster they try to act is a victim of not only corporate greed but their own greed.
Country - I could go on forever about Country. All country music is now is pop music with a pedal steel. That's it.

What is going on right now is the exact same thing that went on in the 80's with rock music. Except now it is happening in all genres of music. At least in the late 80's rap was new and dangerous still. Country was still country and pop consisted of real pop musicians.

All I'm saying is that the only place that you will find real musicians nowadays is in the dirty, smoke filled clubs and the lights are dim but the band is pouring their hearts out. Not because they were taught how to by some choreographer but because it's what they feel deep down inside! So next time you are walking past a bar or club and you hear some kick ass music being played by a local band, go inside and show them that you respect what they are doing. Find out if they have a website and tell your friends. And by doing that you might have a hand in bringing back real music to the radios and stadiums!

Writing with Zack

Some of you already know Zack Harrison from when he was in the band about 9 months ago. Zack was the rhythm guitarist for LoNero for those of you that don't know. Well we've hooked back up with Zack and are writing some songs with him. Zack has already lent his awesome writing skills to TopHat and Loose (the latter which he wrote all the rhythms). Zack is alot of fun to be around and definitely adds some excitement to the writing process which can be rather tedious at times. Look for the Zack-inated songs on the forthcoming cd "Relentless"!

2 new songs and another day closer to finishing the new cd!

So we (Steve, Mike and Bill) spent another day recording at Alien Farm studios. We got basic guitar and bass tracks laid down for 2 more songs and wrote another new song (still untitled. Stay tuned for contest to name it) and laid down the basic tracks for that as well. All told there will be 16 tracks on this cd. I guarantee you this cd is going to SLAM!!!!!! This album is all about heavy guitars, harmonies, good songwriting and groove, groove, groove!!!!! If you have become tired of the crap you hear on the radio like Fallout Boy, Good Charlotte, Yellow Card, etc then this cd will be a breath of fresh air for you!! I promise!!!!!

Also Steve has written/recorded a song which has now become the title track to the cd. It is a guitar heavy/sonic bombast that will open the album. It is absolutely slamming!!!!! Stay tuned for more!

Sweet

The new song "Whatever" (look below) is getting alot of really cool reaction. Which reinforces my opinion that simpler is always better. AC/DC said it best...."At the end of the day people just want to go home and get laid". The last I checked it is better to bump and grind to "You Shook Me All Night Long" then it is to a Dream Theater song.

Our Fans Rule!

I just want to say right now that we absolutely LOVE our fans! They send us awesome emails all the time, buy our cd and merch and help spread the word through our street team page. I wish we could go on tour and meet every one of them right now! I know nowadays there are alot of bands that are in the music business for one thing and that's money. But I am telling you right now that the main two reasons that we play music in LoNero is because we love it and because of our fans. They are the coolest people on the planet! Don't believe us? Check them out on the Fan Map then.

Critics are a joke!

Well this is our first post and what a way to start it off. This was originally published on our myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/LoNero

This is in no particular reference to any one individual critic but to critics as a whole. I am so sick and tired of these spineless people that sit behind the safety of their computers and critique other people's music/art/movies and bash on them for no other reason then the simple fact that they, at one time in their life persued a career in the arts and fell flat on their worthless ass! So in their diluted mind they see giving bad press as a way to get back at those that are trying to make a career in the arts or those that have.

Before you ask I am not writing this because someone wrote a bad review about me. I am writing this because I get requests from "critics" that want me to send them a cd so they can review it. Fuck you! I have no interest in getting your approval. I don't give a damn what your opinion is about me or my music. What I care about is the opinion of our fans. They are the ones that matter. Not some egotistical piece of shit that places no value on true artistic talent. Not some gutter crawling low-life that takes a kick-back to write a good review. The thought of someone else sitting around making a judgement on someone else's artistic expression based solely on some preconceived opinion that they might have of him or her makes me sick.

What I want to know is why do people look up to critics like they are the be all-end all of opinion. "well this guys say's it's good so it must be" What the fuck? What criteria does this critic possess that people trust his opinion? Do you know his background? Of course not because he has none. Most critics are nothing more then frustrated musicians/actors/artists. And internet critics are even worse. You get these people that start up a blog/online magazine and next thing you know they are "critics". It is so laughable. Why do people need validation from someone else to decide if they like something? If you like it you like it. Period. You don't need someone else to tell you if it's good or not. Make up your own damn mind and stop listening to gutter-crawling trash that call themselves critics!

Recording new cd

We have just started re-recording the new cd "Relentless". Originally we had completed the entire album except for mixing. However just after completion we parted ways with our drummer. Once new drummer Steve Spicer got on board it was clear what needed to be done. Re-record the entire cd. Why? Because along with a new drummer comes new dynamics and new interaction between band members. Instead of going in and having Steve play along with the exisiting drums and then just replace them we felt it would be best to redo the entire cd. Since Steve joined the band we have done numerous shows and many rehearsals. Through all that playing the songs have become tighter and new ideas have found their way to the musical surface. It's almost a blessing in disguise, lose a drummer and get a whole new way at looking at things. The new cd is going to SLAM!!!
We have already laid down basic tracks for 6 songs. We are shelving 2 older ones and writing 2 or 3 new ones. The energy on this album is through the roof. Can't wait for everyone to hear it! So for those of you that have heard the album with the old drummer.....it isn't going to be anything like that at all.
